There are many different pathways that leads to permanent residency in Canada.
You can become a Permanent Resident of Canada through one of these economic immigration programs:
Express Entry Streams
Canada's Express Entry system is an online tool that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) uses to select permanent residents to Canada.
The Canadian Government aims to process complete PR applications in the Express Entry system in 6 months or less.
There are 4 economic immigration programs that are processed under the Express Entry system:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW)
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Select Streams of Provincial Nominee Programs
Provincial Nominee Programs
Most provinces and territories in Canada have established its own immigration programs. It allows them to target prospective immigrants who intend to settle in their province or territory. This is a great program for you if your occupation is deemed as in-demand in a certain province or territory. Under this program, having an immediate relative in the province or territory you’re applying under will be an advantage.

Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program
This program is for those intending to live permanently in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island. This is open to foreign skilled workers and international graduates. To apply through this program, you’ll have to have an employer willing to sponsor you.
